From Kaunas Town Hall Square, you will walk along Vilnius Street to the famous, almost 1.7 km long, “Laisves” Avenue - like the Champs-Élysées in Paris - with its cozy shops, restaurants and cafés, theatres, museums and three squares, old linden and horse chestnut trees and monuments. It is one of the most popular meeting and walking places in Kaunas.
Vilniaus Street has remained the main axis of Kaunas Old Town, and after its reconstruction has become a pedestrian walkway. Since the Middle Ages, it has remained the oldest street in Kaunas and was the main road to Vilnius.

The Old Town, of which Kaunas is proud today, is the beginning of the city's history, as it was the Old Town that started the growth and development of the city. It is a home to many magnificent architectural monuments that bear witness to the most important events in Kaunas and Lithuania. Kaunas became the European Capital of Culture in 2022, which stimulated the development of art and culture and made Kaunas a meeting point for artists, tourists, and residents from all over Lithuania to spend quality time together. In addition, Kaunas Old Town has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, especially for its architectural modernism.
If hotel visitors decide to delve deeper into Kaunas' history, there are various museums on offer. The T. Ivanauskas Museum of Zoology has 96 stands arranged according to scientific systematics. The exposition includes hunting trophies, mammals, a paleontology and osteology hall with animal skeletons, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles, insects and, finally, invertebrates. Kaunas is also proud of its Vytautas the Great War Museum. The content of the exhibition is extremely varied and perfectly reflects Lithuania's difficult periods. There is the history of weapons, the history of warfare in recent times, the “Lituanica” Memorial Hall, elements of the First World War in Lithuania, the Hall of the Uprisings, and many other traces of the history of Lithuania and Kaunas, which have not been forgotten thanks to this museum. Moreover, we have M.K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, which was founded in 1921 and has become one of the oldest and largest art museums in Lithuania. The M.K. Čiurlionis Museum exhibits paintings and other works of art by one of Lithuania's most famous artists of all times. The exhibition also includes a music hall where visitors can listen to the music of this extraordinary artist. Kaunas city center is also full of galleries. Kaunas Photography Gallery, where contemporary modernism is on display. This gallery is one of the largest and most influential photography exhibition venues not only in Lithuania, but also in the Baltic States. The Old Town is also proud of the Kaunas Botanical Garden, which provides a magical experience of nature and its natural processes. Visitors to the garden will be able to see beautiful roses and garden plants, get acquainted with medicinal and rare and protected Lithuanian plants, and see expositions of woody plants and soil-cleaning plants. Such a wealth of nature's creations awaits visitors in the outdoor collection, while the garden also opens its doors to the conservatory collection, which is full of tropical plants, subtropical plants, and the history of the conservatory itself. A stroll through the garden has never been more enriching and fuller of exceptional atmosphere and beauty.
The architecture of the Old Town is a treasure that distinguishes Kaunas from different Lithuanian cities and other Baltic countries. One of the main buildings of the old architecture is the Gothic Kaunas Castle, just 450 meters from the “Amberton” Hotel. It was around this castle that the city we now know as Kaunas was formed, so the value of this building to Lithuanians is very extraordinary. The castle is full of legends and stories about the disappearance of Queen Bonn Sforza's army under the ground and the castle's prison, which caused the imprisoned souls to be unable to find peace and haunt people at night, therefore, a guided tour of the castle is highly recommended. Another wonderful building is Kaunas St. The Cathedral Basilica of the Apostles Peter and Paul, which as well represents the Gothic period of Kaunas, but also has Baroque and Neo-Gothic features, so architecture lovers should find this cathedral of particular interest. These buildings are just a couple of the countless architectural creations of great and special beauty that can be seen in the heart of the Old Town.
“Amberton Cozy Hotel Kaunas” will always recommend where to go and what to see, depending on the needs and interests of the guests, so everyone will have the opportunity to feel the spirit of Kaunas and get to know its unique history, culture, and architecture.
